Running after an ACL reconstruction

Returning to running post ACL reconstruction

At DHG, specific outcome measures and current guidelines are used to direct our practice when considering when an athlete can return to running post ACL surgery.

Specifically, these include:

- Pain < 2/10, no swelling

- 95% knee bend and full extension vs uninjured side

- Hamstring and quad strength > 70% of uninjured side

- Single leg hop tests > 70% of uninjured side

- Single leg squat and step up with good biomechanics

At DHG our physios will assess your readiness to return to running post ACL repair (and other knee injuries), as well as design a program individually tailored to your specific requirements in order to get you to achieve the above criteria in order to recommence running
