Women's Health Physio

At Darwin Health Group we understand the sensitive and complex nature of pelvic health conditions. Our experienced physiotherapists will therefore take the time to gain an understanding of the issues that are concerning you. The pelvis contains many vital organs including the bladder, bowel and uterus; and fulfills many important functions, such as carrying a foetus during pregnancy, childbirth, defecation, bladder storage and emptying, and sexual intercourse.

The pelvic floor muscles support these organs from below and are integral to all these functions and more! Pelvic floor muscles that are not functioning well can contribute to symptoms of the pelvis such as incontinence, prolapse, constipation, painful intercourse and pain in the pelvis.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is the use of these thin monofilament needles to release trigger points and stimulate neuromuscular and cellular level changes in our muscles resulting in pain relief and improved movement and function.

Do you ever feel like you have a knot in your muscle that hurts and you just can’t seem to get it to away with foam rolling, massage, stretching, or the use of a theragun?

That’s a trigger point that can cause local and referred pain and altered movement. Dry needling goes straight to the source and releases that knot so that you can feel better faster!

Falls Prevention

Did you know that the leading cause of hospitalisation for people over 65 is falls? At least one in four elderly people have a fall each year. Darwin Health Group seeks to enhance opportunities for older people to engage in an affordable, high quality, results orientated and sustainable falls risk assessment and fall prevention program.

Risk for falls
There are many factors affecting falls in older adults. As we age, our ability to maintain our balance reduces, which is compounded by other factors such as:
- Reduced strength, particularly in the lower limbs
- Changes with walking, notably decreased stride length and inability to lift the foot
- Visual impairment
- Foot pain and arthritis
- Poor footwear
- Home environment, in particular uneven surfaces, stairs, rugs and clutter
- Medication, including sedatives, antidepressants and tranquilisers
- Osteoarthritis in the hips and knees
- Heart changes, particularly those that affect blood pressure
- Vitamin D deficiency

Ultimately, this leads to a decrease in confidence and can lead to isolation. Exercise targeting strength and balance, along with education including home safety intervention had been shown to decrease risk of falls and associated injury by 35%.

Exercise therapy

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy is best defined as a treatment plan of physical activities through gait training, neuro reeducation, and therapeutic activities. This exercise regime is designed and prescribed to assist patients in recovering from diseases and conditions that interfere with their movement, daily activities or maintaining a state of well-being.

Exercise therapy is a type of rehabilitation that uses physical activity to help treat injuries or conditions. It can be used independently or with other treatments like medication or surgery.

The large onsite gym and Pilates studio is the ideal place to build strength, stability and fitness.
