Yes. The NDIS can pay for physiotherapy when it is related to your disability and helps you work towards the goals in your NDIS plan. Most physio is funded through the Capacity Building budget, under Improved Daily Living, and you do not need a GP referral to book.

When the NDIS funds physio

The NDIS funds supports that are "reasonable and necessary" for your disability. For physiotherapy, that usually means sessions that help you:

•      Move more safely at home and in the community

•      Build strength, balance and endurance for daily tasks

•      Maintain function with a progressive condition

•      Reduce the support you need from others over time

•      Use equipment such as walking aids or wheelchairs well

When it usually does not

Physio for an everyday injury that is not linked to your disability, such as a sprained ankle from a weekend game, is generally treated as a health system support. That means Medicare, private health insurance or paying privately, rather than your NDIS plan. If you are not sure, ask us. We can help you work out which funding source fits.

What your plan needs to include

Check your plan for funding under Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living. That is the most common home for physiotherapy. Your goals matter too. A goal like "I want to walk to the shops on my own" or "I want to get in and out of the car safely" gives a clear reason for physio sessions.

How much it costs

For 2026 to 2027, the NDIS price limit for physiotherapy is $183.99 per hour at the national rate, which applies to most of Darwin and Palmerston. Remote and very remote areas have higher limits. Registered providers cannot charge above these limits.
