What is it?

Elbow bursitis is the inflammation of a bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that reduces friction between tissues of the body. In the upper limb, it commonly affects the shoulder, elbow, or wrist, often due to repetitive motion or prolonged pressure.

How to fix it?

Treatment involves reducing inflammation, protecting the affected area, and gradually restoring movement. In some cases, corticosteroid injections may be considered.

How can a physiotherapist help?

At Darwin Health Group, we:

  • Utilise modalities like ice or heat therapy to alleviate pain.

  • Implement stretching and strengthening exercises to improve joint mobility.

  • Educate on posture and ergonomics to reduce strain on the affected bursa.

  • Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in managing bursitis and preventing recurrence.
